Inside: The Tumbling Sea Glass Quilt

The Tumbling Sea Glass quilt pattern is fun and finishable. It goes together quickly because the design uses Half Square Triangles that are cut 8-at-a-time.

Today I’m sharing about the Tumbling Sea Glass quilt. I started dreaming about this quilt a few months ago. I wanted to design a quilt that was fun and finishable, is precut and scrap friendly, and works with solids. As I worked through the design phase I made several versions, including one that used a fat quarter bundle and a 10″ stacker from my stash. I also made the steps flow in an order that made it unlikely you would cut off any of the points.

Once all of these elements were in place, I knew this pattern was ready!

Tumbling Sea Glass is now available in The Seasoned Homemaker pattern shop.

The Tumbling Sea Glass Quilt Pattern

The Tumbling Sea Glass quilt pattern came to me in September, 2022. To make the pattern fun and finishable, I wanted to design a pattern using a single block. That’s when I decided to use a traditional Dutchman’s Puzzle block with a two-toned twist. When the two color blocks come together it creates a modern quilt design with traditional roots.

This pattern is best for confident beginners. Each block is made from half square triangles (HSTs) and uses the HSTs 8-at-a-time method for cutting them out quickly. Plus the pattern includes easy-to-follow graphics that demonstrate Half Square Triangles 8-at-a-Time to help you efficiently make your quilt blocks.

Tumbling Sea Glass pairs six different fabrics to create the blocks and almost any six fabrics will work. Inside the pattern you’ll find a coloring sheet to help you put together a look you love.

Lots of Fabric Options

I love a quilt that only comes in one size because it makes patterns fun and finishable! Tumbling Sea Glass makes into a perfect 60″ x 60″ throw that’s ideal for sofa snuggling or a modern baby quilt.

Because of its size, the pattern is suitable for quilting with scraps – including those leftover 10″ squares. Mix and match for a scrappy look or put them together to create a single color palette.

You will amazed at the versatility of this pattern. I’ve made three versions with lots of different fabrics and each is unique in it’s own way.
