Welcome back to All About Machine Embroidery. Click here to catch up on this entire series. Today’s topic is Machine Embroidered Buttonholes. Do you have an older sewing machine that sews extremely well, but makes terrible buttonholes? Well, I have some good news for you. You can make the most perfect buttonholes using your embroidery machine.
Eileen Roche has created an easy-to-understand tutorial on how to make buttonholes using an embroidery machine here.
Most machine embroidery software comes with some sort of built-in buttonhole design.
However, you can purchase a $5 design set on Etsy like this one which simplifies the entire process.

And you thought it stopped there. Did you know that you can have buttonhole variety with machine embroidery?
Check out these cute sets from Embroidery Library.

Tomorrow is the last day of the series. I will be wrapping up and sending you on your way to making an informed decision about machine embroidery.
See ya’ then.
Hi Leslie,
Thank you very very much for your excellent articles. I have had my embroidery machine a brother 1500 for 4 years. I wish I had read this then . I found you on Pinterest and went to take a quick look. One hour later was still engrossed reading. Wow what a resource of brillent information.
I learnt so so much thank you thank you. I now feel that I am well I formed and did by sheer luck choose the right machine. Yes I wish it had a colour screen its only down side. It will do everything else perfectly. It has all the features. I do t like my card slot but have no need of it anyway because I can download from the pc . Your article has given me even more scope than ever. I read every single step of your article better than any book on the subject.
You should publish and sell it Leslie and it should be in every embroidery machine package.
When I read about the buttonholes, it was a real light bulb moment. Fantastic idea why did I not know this before. Buttonhole making has been such a bug bear. They are not neat enough but now I am off to buy a pack and for my grand children’s outfits they will be wonderful .

I have read every word of your series after purchasing a secondhand Bernina Deco 330 (card reader only). Now I’m ready for my first project (I think). My questions are this. How do you change threads and keep your place? How do you change bobbin threads if they break or you run out of thread. This may have been covered but I missed it?
I recommend you contact your local Bernina dealer and attend a class on your machine.
