Why I Love Pre-Cuts

I’m always hearing from readers about how hard it is to find time to sew. Believe me, I get it. I struggle with this problem, too.
One of the ways I tackle the time issue is by using pre-cuts such as Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes, and Charm Packs. You may recall that I recently whipped up a Simple Baby Quilt using a layer cake kit. By using a kit I was able to get right into sewing my project. It was fun, fast, and I had a blast making the quilt.
One of the other true benefits of using pre-cuts is the way it limits waste. If you have a small area for your sewing then this is going to be one of your best options. You have everything you need to make your project and the added benefit of not needing to store lots of fabric and supplies for future projects.
One of my favorite pre-cuts is the Jelly Roll. There is a ton of fabric all rolled up into a small area. Talk about solving storage issues. A jelly roll can fit into a small supply box or even a drawer. It is ready to go when you have the time to sew and there is virtually no waste.
When you have limited sewing time, this can be a huge benefit. Just pull out your jelly roll and sew together a few strips for your favorite project!
For example, I love the cheerful colors of this Vintage Picnic Jelly Roll by Bonnie & Camille for Moda Fabrics.
Of course, this Jelly Roll pairs perfectly with Fat Quarter Shop’s Jelly Roll Jam Video. I’ve made this pattern before. It is fun, fast, and easy. You can put together a quilt in half a day.
How’s that for saving you some time!
This image will show you exactly which fabrics are included in the jelly roll. I kind of love every fabric here. They are all so cheerful and remind me of Spring.
And, for those of you who decide to purchase your own Jelly Roll, I suggest you check out Craftsy’s Magical Jelly Roll video which is full of great quilt ideas using precuts. (affiliate)
What a great combination of color and design! Thanks for the chance.
I would love to win this cheery jelly roll.
I hadn’t thought of the jelly rolls as a time saver before but it makes sense. Cutting is the part that is so time consuming. Thanks for the tip.
I love this fabric!!! The Vintage Picnic Jelly Roll by Bonnie & Camille for Moda Fabrics is perfect for so many projects. I would probably make a quilt with it, but I think a tote bag would be really cute too. Pillows would also be fun! These prints are so great. Nice choice!

Thank you dear to let me give the opportunity to begin making a quilt. I am afraid of doing it. Specially the quilting part in my normal home sewing machine. If i earn the roll I will make a lot of pictures of my quilt and I will send them to your blog. Thanks a lot. I am in Spain but not be afraid to the cost of the post: I will pay very happy for it :).
What a fun set of prints!! Being new to quilting, I love pre-cuts! It is nice to go straight from the vision in my head to the sewing machine. I think a nice ‘summer in the park’ quilt would be great with this fabric!

Vintage Picnic is such a happy, happy line. If I won the jelly roll, I would probably make a flying geese log cabin quilted tablecloth for the patio …..which would double as a throw for early morning birdwatching!!
I would love to try this. I love this combination!
I’m with you. Pre-cuts are amazing time-savers. And an expert has chosen the colors/prints that work together well! I’ve taken Kimberly Einmo’s class, and she is terrific! Lots of fun, informative, full of good solid teaching.
This jellyroll would allow me no excuse. I would have to make a quilt.
I agree that pre-cuts and kits are great space-savers. I ran out of space for fabric storage a couple of years ago, and actually sold (gasp!) most of my fabric stash. Now I love buying kits…I get just what I need.
Was going to make a baby quilt for a friend that is having her first in July! Love this fabric and it would be perfect!

Would love to make a couple of baby quilts. Thank you for offering this giveaway!
These fabrics are wonderful! who wouldn’t love to win this!!!
I would make my first quilt with this jelly roll!
I’m new to patchwork and sewing in general. Cross stitching has been taking up all my time for years! I’d love to start with this beautiful set of fabrics. I fancy a mini quilt to start with, which I could pop in a frame to hang on the wall for all to see! (Well that’s the idea – I’m not sure it will merit a place on the wall!)
That fabric makes me think of my Grandma’s and Mom’s quilts. I’d love to do some quilting with that.
Now I’m kicking myself for not picking some up the other day. 😉
I don’t always work with precuts but when I do, time is the reason.
What fun fabric! I’d love to try my hand at a quilt made using a jelly roll.
I am new to patchwork and quilting and so far have made a cushion. I think I may be come addicted to this craft so would love the jellyroll to get me started.
What beautiful fabric! So fun and cheerful : )
Lovely fabrics! Precuts definitely save time. Seems I spend hours just cutting and then can be too tired to sew. With precuts I even get to skip the put away all the cutting stuff so I can get out my sewing machine.
