WELCOME...
I'm Leslie! I am a native Texan who lives in the sunny city of Austin, TX with my husband of 34 years (as of 2011). Nearby, I have two grown daughters, two sons-in-law and two grandsons. My cup runneth over.
Pull up a chair, kick off your shoes, and grab yourself a cup of coffee. The Seasoned Homemaker is a way to share my life-long passion for sewing. As a young girl, I was always around talented women who loved sewing. My mother is an accomplished seamstress as were both of my grandmothers. I began sewing and designing when I realized that my Barbie needed something new to wear! With fabric scraps from my mother’s stash and some blunt-tip scissors, a lifelong passion began.
I began The Seasonedhomemaker as a way to share some of the inspiration that goes into the apron designs that I sell in my Etsy store. While it's not always about apron-sewing, the blog is my way to continue the connection I have made with my customers.
Your comments, wit, and wisdom are the fuels that drives this blog. Your talent both inspires and encourages me. Your willingness to share these things humbles me to the core.
MY INSPIRATION...
A short while back I began dwelling on the idea that women throughout history have always worn aprons of one kind or another. This universal connection with women inspired me to want to do something that would continue this chain. The more I thought about this, the more I wanted to create something for today’s woman. I wanted to give her an apron that would be unique and personal. I didn’t want to stop there, though; I also wanted to make a quality apron that would be something treasured by her children and grandchildren. Perhaps one of my aprons would be passed down with beautiful memories of the woman who wore it.
About the same time, I discovered Etsy which is a perfect place to display and even sell handmade items. Sugar Pie Chic became a venue for me to create aprons that were individual and unique. Armed with some vintage apron patterns that belonged to my mother, I was able to rework them into aprons that were a little sassy and chic. I wanted each apron to evoke something from the past while remaining both simple and practical for today’s woman.
WHEN I'M NOT SEWING...
Take a look at most of my aprons and you will see a very distinct garden theme. When I'm not sewing, I can usually be found in my garden. A few years ago I became a Master Gardener and started dabbled in landscape design. When I’m not in my studio sewing, I’m usually in my garden dreaming about new ways to dig up the grass in my suburban landscape and move perfectly happy plants to new locations. I sometimes help my friends do the same. This causes me to have horrible manicures, sometimes smell like manure, and have a wicked farmer's tan. Still, I can't help myself!
I HAVE A DREAM...
I occasionally fantasize about traveling around the globe and visiting all of my aprons. I am curious to see what they are up to. Are they just hanging on a hook in someone's kitchen or they doing hard labor everyday as family meals are being prepared? I'm still saving for that around-the-world ticket.
In the meantime, we can exchange thoughts and share sewing adventures.
