So you want to start a garden and don’t know where to begin. Today, I’m going to give you a few Gardening Tips to get you started. The first thing to remember is a successful garden doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time and a little planning. But the rewards are endless.
You don’t need an acre of land or an endless supply of money to be a successful gardener. All you need is a little inspiration.
Small Space Gardens
This pallet garden is a perfect example of economical small space gardening. Take a free pallet and turn it into an entire garden that fits on a small balcony or patio.
Rooftop gardens are proof that anyone can garden anywhere ~ even a rooftop in Brooklyn. A small space using containers will do just fine.
Another economical choice would be a square foot garden. I’ve used this method in the past and found it to be very successful.
And, it’s not for veggies only. Flowers look really nice in a square foot garden.
If you are new to gardening, set up one 4 x 4 square and give it a try. As you get better at gardening, add a couple more.
Dry Climate Gardening
What if you don’t get a lot of rainfall? There are ways to successfully grow without large amounts of water.
Have you heard about keyhole gardens? They use minimal water and have a chute that allows for active composting. I love the way they are shaped because it allows for easy access to the entire garden. They originated in Africa as a way to grow large amounts of food with little water.
You can purchase already prepared Keyhole Garden kits or build your own. They are a great use of space and all for returning the scraps directly back into the garden.

Go Organic
I believe that all gardening should be organic. It’s good for the land, people, and pets. You will use less water and you will have healthier plants.
