In Case You Were Wondering...

In case you were wondering, I occasionally like to step outside my apron box and sew something besides an apron.  Here are a few things I've been doing for fun!

It's Spring!

We might not get dogwoods bloomin' here in Austin, but the pear trees have been putting on a serious show and our particular tree has been one of the showiest!

It did occur to me that one of the aprons I made this week was strangely similar to my blooming pear tree.  I thought I'd show the comparison.
Definitely the best shot of the week around here....

Alice in Wonderland Pinafore

I love to participate in the Tie One On apron galleries.  The main reason is the gallery challenges sometimes cause me to come up with  new ideas.  The current gallery challenges participants to create an Alice in Wonderland style pinafore apron in white or some variation of white.  Obviously, I ignored the "white" part.

Nevertheless, I pondered this awhile and decided that adding a Peter Pan collar to a classic (Alice in Wonderland) pinafore apron would fulfill my love of classic children's literature and create a new style for my Etsy store.  Of course, there had to be rickrack.

Next, I will work on making something white-ish to put up in the gallery....

Starry Night

I know I am not alone in my love for these two paintings.  Van Gogh's Starry Night on the left and Starry Night Over the Rhone on the right both have this mesmerizing quality that I can never resist, an intoxicating blend of insanity and beauty that holds me.  I can't explain it, but I am completely drawn in.

Imagine my glee when one of my favorite fabric designers, Laura Gunn, released her latest collection called Poppy.  While I know these fabrics cannot begin to compare to my beloved Van Gogh's, there is a similarity in the fabrics that I noticed when I was making this apron.  Stop by my Etsy store this week and you will see these beautiful fabrics turned into aprons that (hopefully) inspire you.

Commercial Success

Recently, I received an email from Becca at BeckaSoup.  Her email started with, "I am a stylist in New York working on a video shoot for Kraft Foods..."  It took me a moment to realize that Becca wasn't a hair stylist, but a photo stylist.  Even better, she wanted to use one of my aprons in her shoot for Kraft Foods!

According to Becca, "The concept is that the Kraft Fairy comes to visit a Mom to inspire her to enter the Kraft Rock Your Recipe video contest."  The videos will be up on Kraftfoods.com and rockyourrecipe.com.  from May through November.

Since I don't own the rights to the photos, I'm waiting to get permission to share a picture from the shoot so everyone here can see how adorable this is going to be.

Wouldn't it be great if the Kraft Fairy needed more aprons for future Fairy business!
